How to Sell Prints Online – All About Laptops – what to look out for and what you will need
**Update 3rd August 2019 : I’ve just updated my laptop to the ASUS Rog Strix G731GW Gaming Laptop machine – and so far so good. It is much faster than my previous model and I am loving the fact I have a 1TB drive so that I can store all my designs in one place!
The things to look out for when buying laptops specifically for design are :
RAM – go for as big a RAM number as you can afford (at time of writing the ranges tend to be 8 GB RAM – 32 GB RAM). I won’t get all technical here (so don’t clobber me as I’m not an expert!! 😉 ) but it basically means how fast your computer can retrieve the information stored on it.
Graphics Card – It’s great if the laptop you are opting for has a graphics card (name is something like Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB) – as you are designing I always think it is a good idea to have a graphics card because some functions in the latest version of Adobe Photoshop require it.
Hard disk – Lastly I always choose a laptop with quite a large hard disk because I store all my source files (.psd etc) on my laptop directly. If possible I always opt for one with SSD and HDD storage – this means that they are 2 separate hard disks so with one I keep all my installations and computer files. This time around there weren’t any available with 2 hard disks so I have just one. I have also bought an external back up drive though to keep everything safe!
MACS – I don’t use MACs sorry so can’t advise on those – but I do hear that they are great for design – I’ve just always been a PC girl myself.
